Starred Review. Two leading pediatricians at Toronto's internationally esteemed Hospital for Sick Children (aka Sick Kids) combine their expertise with that of five other pediatricians and a nurse practitioner in this comprehensive guide to the first 12 months of life. The book opens with a useful section on concepts and decisions that should be addressed before the baby is born, such as choosing a doctor, preparing siblings and purchasing equipment. The authors also discuss a variety of family situations, including single, same sex and adoptive parents. Following sections cover development and medical concerns in the first days, weeks and months, giving special attention to feeding, sleep issues, play, safety and how to care for a sick baby. Frequently Asked Questions sections will be particularly useful to first-time parents. Much like a good pediatrician, the text is straightforward and personable, and more than 200 color photos of parents and children provide an intimate, playful touch. The authors successfully create a clear, objective, and, above all, practical guide in this instructive and visually lively resource. (Sept.)

Amazon.com Review

Is our baby eating enough? Is this much crying normal? How do I know when she is really sick? This hefty, 671-page guide to your baby's first year is brought to you by the creators of the bestselling What to Expect When You're Expecting. The three authors, all mothers themselves, are calm, clear, and encouraging as they tackle the first year of child-rearing, month by month. The easy-to-absorb, chronological format includes sections such as "What Your Baby May Be Doing," "What You Can Expect at This Month's Checkups," "Feeding Your Baby This Month," "What You May Be Concerned About," and "What It's Important to Know." Part Two addresses special concerns such as illness, first aid do's and don'ts, the low-birthweight baby, the adopted baby, becoming a father, and sibling relationships. You'll also find discussions of breastfeeding and bottlefeeding, selecting a physician for the baby, diapers and clothing, safety, and many ways of stimulating the baby's development. The recipes for babies and toddlers in Part Three are useful, as are the recommended home remedies; charts on common childhood illnesses; height and weight; and the thorough index. (A particular strength of the book is the authors' careful attention to diet and nutrition for both mother and baby, incorporating the American Academy of Pediatrics' latest recommendations on infant nutrition.) While some of the authors' perspectives are controversial (such as whether to let your baby "cry it out" or not), this book remains one of the most comprehensive resources for new parents as they toddle through their baby's first year. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From Publishers Weekly

Parents-to-be are likely to find themselves quickly immersed in this highly authoritative manual by the collaborators of What to Expect When You're Expecting . Nearly 700 pages of snappily written, friendly advice, constructed in the form of chatty answers to hypothetical questions, are arranged on a month-by-month basis. For each of 12 months, there are a guide to the progress the baby may be expected to be making at this stage, a list of potential health or other problems and paragraphs on the myriad questions all new parents ask--on subjects as various as in-home care, birthmarks, circumcision and breath-holding. Other sections cover what to buy for a new-born, first aid, recipes, adoption and even how to enjoy the first year, in terms of the parents' own activities, such as social life and sex. An extensive index leads the reader to information that wouldn't normally be accessed using the month-to-month arrangement--and also serves as an indication of the book's all-inclusiveness. Illustrated. 65,000 first printing; first serial to Working Mother magazine; author tour.

3 Easy Steps in Choosing Your
Baby’s Gender Before Conception!”

Step 1: Ovulation and Importance of Knowing When you are Ovulating for Conceiving a Boy or Girl

When you know more about how your body conceives and nurtures your baby you will want to take the best care of yourself you can.
As a woman, there are very short periods of time when you are likely to conceive. In these short periods of time, certain factors will decide to whether a  boy or a girl is conceived.
It is as simple as this:
If your ph is alkaline you are much more likely to have a boy.
If your ph is acidic you are much more likely to have a girl.
You’ll also find out more about the importance of basal body temperature and how to take it. The facts about cervical mucus and many more things you, as a woman, need to know about your body to help you conceive.
To cut the long story short, the timing of your intercourse is vital and the Prince or Princess Guide will give you a clear picture of how and when to time your intercourse.
Step 2: Adjust Your Diet to Create the Ideal Environment for Sperm X or Sperm Y

As a woman when you decide to conceive a child you need to change your lifestyle. Most of us do not take as good of care of ourselves as we should.  I cover what a good diet is for conception as well as specific diets which can help to increase your chances of getting a boy or a girl baby.
The diets are very easy to do, with minimal preparation.
You will be able to understand how small changes in your diet, either leaving out foods or adding certain foods will raise the ph or lower it. This is needed in order to increase the probability of you conceiving a certain baby gender.
I also cover good and bad foods for pregnancy and how you need to be concerned about your alcohol, tobacco and other drug treatments when pregnant and if you decide to nurse your baby later.
The decision to have a baby is not a light one and you and your partner should consider all the changes and sacrifices that will need to be made to have a healthy baby. Having your new baby will be worth it all!
Step 3: Use a Particular Sexual Position to Conceive a Boy or a Girl

I cover the different sexual positions and which ones work the best for a boy or a girl. The positions are normal ones, very easy to do and comes with sketched graphics for better understanding. You will find out how different positions will help to place the either the “X” or “Y” chromosome sperm in the best position to be fertilize the egg which ultimately determines the sex of the baby.
And this is what you will find in the guide:
  • Understanding Ovulation and the timing of it (Page 7)
  • How to calculate your ovulation date accurately (Page 9)
  • Factors influencing fertility and how to manipulate these factors to dramatically increase your chances of conceiving (Page 10)
  • Falling pregnant and what to expect (Page 16)
  • Description of how conception works (Page 23)

Product Description

Once your child outgrows her rear-facing infant car seat, she's still required ride in a car seat or a booster for several more years to come. So rather than investing in a succession of seats and boosters, try the Graco Nautilus 3-in 1 Toddler Car Seat, the only forward-facing car seat your child will need. Its five-point harness accommodates children up to 65 pounds, and its convertible booster/backless booster can hold children up to 100 pounds in weight--longer than most other convertible car seats.

Versatile, Convertible Design Lasts through Early Childhood
The Nautilus features an extended five-point harness design that can accommodate children over the age of one, from 20 to 65 pounds in weight--a wider range than most other forward-facing car seats. As your child grows, the seat easily converts to a high-back booster and then, lastly, to a backless booster for a child up to 100 pounds in weight. A steel-reinforced frame and superior construction help to ensure safety and durability through years of use.

Built for Comfort and Superior Safety
You can rest assured that your child will have superior protection while riding in the Nautilus, thanks to extensive crash testing and a steel-reinforced structure. The car seat meets or exceeds US Safety Standards, including U.S. Compliance Standard FMVSS 213; the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), with peak Crash Force approximately twice the Car Seat Standard; and tests for Extreme Car Interior Temperatures. EPS energy-absorbing foam provides additional security and comfort.

As well as being secure and safe, your child will feel extra-comfy, too, with an easily adjustable head support, cushioned seat, and wide armrests; a cup holder and side storage keeps snacks and treasures close at hand.

About Graco
In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone formed Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for local manufacturers. In 1953, Gray left the firm, leaving Cone as sole owner. Cone decided to manufacture his own line of products, but had trouble coming up with ideas. Enter David Saint, an engineer, tinkerer, and stained glass artisan who worked for Graco. Saint, himself a father of nine, was intrigued when an associate told him how his wife would soothe their tired and cranky baby while swinging in a backyard glider swing. Acting on this inspiration, he went to the drawing board and 18 months of hard work later, the world's first wind-up infant swing, the Graco Swyngomatic, was born. Graco sold millions of Swyngomatics in the coming years, becoming one of the world's leading manufacturers of juvenile products in the process. Today, Graco is a Newell Rubbermaid company, with 1500 associates worldwide. While a half-century has brought many changes to Graco, their dedication and commitment to designing and manufacturing top-quality products remains, and continues on.
